No hurry, Cathy, as I start teaching and coaching again so I likely won't have much free time until at least the end of October.

Regarding Maiolo connection:

My great-grandmother, Domenica Maiolo (spelled Maioli here in the U.S.), who married my great-grandfather Antonio Pileggi, was born to John Maiolo and Maria Foderaro (sp?) who married about 1885 in Cortale.

Their children, all born in Cortale, were Mary, Domenic, Antonio, Francisco (the priest/bishop!), Angelina, and my great-grandmother Domenica.

Maria Foderaro's parents were Catherine Bilotta and Francesco Foderaro and John Maiolo's parents were Maria Fontana and Domenic Maiolo.

Some spellings I'm unsure of as my great-aunt used the American Maioli spelling in her notes and some letters were tough to read as in Foderaro. Hope this helps find the connections...

Talk to you later,
Jay

THAT IS OUR CONNECTION!!!!! John Maiuolo's parents were Domenico Maiuolo and Maria Frontera (not Fontana)! They were my great grandparents! My grandmother's father was Giuseppe Maiuolo and his parents were Domenico and Maria Frontera! I have Domenico and Maria's parents names, marriage documents, etc.! I knew there was a connection because of the Bishop - now I know exactly what that connection is! Very Happy AMAZING!

Awesome! Very Happy

I knew there'd be some break out of the new info. Now if only I can get myself over to Cortale and get a look at some of those civil records, I could get a bit further on the Pileggi side and be a fully content man.

OK Jay, here is what I have.
Domenico Maiuolo and Maria Frontera had 3 children that I found - I know I missed some. I have barely touched Cortale. The 3 children were Giuseppe (my great grandfather) born in 1854, Rosaria born in 1849 and Antonio born in 1854, Domenico and Maria were married in May, 1846. Domenico was 36 when they got married and a property owner by profession. Domenico's parents were Pietro Maiuolo (deceased at the time of this marriage) and Rosaria Parisi. It is interesting to note the mayor who signed this marriage was also a Parisi. Our Maiuolo's were a political family. My Giuseppe held some sort of political post and married the daughter of a politician from Tropea. Maria Frontera was 31 at the time of the marriage and was the daughter of Antonio Frontera and Domenica Schrimer. I am ashamed to say, that is all I have. For now anyway...
