Does anyone know the mailing address of some government agency in Panni, Foggia to help obtain records of my ancestors? How does this procedure work? Do I send money, do i have to be specific? Any help would be appreciated

Hi Nico,
I'll leave answering this question to our genealogy researchers - they will have all the answers for you I'm sure... you'll see. It's not a difficult procedure, but it can take quite a long time sometimes.

The site is quiet today I think because it is Labour Day 'over there' and the same here in Italy (everyone seems to be off on a long weekend here...) Smile

Hi, Nico,

I can tell you that there are no May day celebrations in my neck of the woods.

You can write to
Ufficio dello Stato Civile
Piazza G. Matteotti, 2
71020 Panni (FG)
Italy

If you don't speak Italian, go to www.circolocalabrese.org under resources for form letters. You don't have to send money. Perhaps sending a self-addressed envelope (with NO stamp) may help. Also, I photocopy my license and send them a copy with my request, as some towns require identification. You should give them the name of your ancestor and the year or date of their birth. Most towns will not search more than a year for your request, in my experience. It is best to ask for the integral act: una copia integrale del atto di nascita (Carole, am I right on del or is it dell'atto???). The integrale act will have more information on it than the extract. Check out my web site www.celenzaheritage.com under genealogy for a general guide and great links to how this process works. My guide is specific to Celenza (also in Foggia) but you can apply the same advice to your town.
