My great-great grandfather was named Rosario Lupia, he was born in Scigliano (CZ) in 1860, his wife Catalda (Caterina) DiVita/DiVito was born in 1859 in Villalba, Caltanissetta, Sicily. I have a copy of their Stato Di Famiglia. I know that Rosario Lupia moved to Buffalo, NY to work and make money, and that is where he met Catalda DiVita. Their first son was born there in 1891, but their other three sons were born in Scigliano, meaning that they moved back to Italy between 1891 and 1893. There is a story my grandfather told me, that Catalda DiVita was married before she met Rosario, and that her first husband was jailed for murder, and by the time he was released she had already gone back to Scigliano with my great-great-grandfather. I would love to know if she had any children with her first husband, and I am trying to find out if her and my great-great grandfather were married. I also want to know when they immigrated to the United States. Does anyone have any ideas on how I can find some more information on them?

Hello Dan, Very Happy
Sounds like you have done a lot of research, so these suggestions may or may not help.
Have you looked for a marriage record for Catalda in Villalba? The Family History Center has both civil and church records on film.
Civil, tinyurl.com/3hzzxnm
Church, tinyurl.com/3hw45v9
If she was married before she came to NY, her comune should have a record.

Also, You have the Stato di Famiglia, so you know three of the children of Rosario and Catalda were born in Scigliano,
but do you have the three childrens birth acts?
civil records for Scigliano tinyurl.com/3nm3vns
If you don't, there may be some helpful information on them.

Hope some of this helps.
Paul

Thank you for the advice Paul!
I have delved into the records of Scigliano extensively, but I had not thought to look at the Villalba records, I had not even considered the fact that she could have married there.
I am waiting for a copy of Catalda's death certificate, which I should be getting at the end of the month, hopefully that will point me to the right family group in the Villalba records.
