Ok. I thought he came in 1897 and was 19 which would put his birth about 1878. I might be getting confused (which wouldn't be the first time)!!!!

Ohhh, I was going by Giorgio's age on the census. You are talking about that Genoa manifest, nothing wrong with your memory!

I would say that isn't the right Giorgio then any more than the 1910 manifest.

Nicolo (the brother) is really the clincher here, because we can prove who his father is, and (thankfully) that he was also the brother of John's Giorgio.

Kind of a roundabout way of proving something...lol

This one Elizabeth....

I've got two (for reference) coming to New Orleans in 1897

297 GIGLIOTTA NICOLO 51 M SICILY SAMBUCA
729 GIGLIOTTA ROSALIA 33 F SICILY SAMBUCA

1898 manifest

Jim what do you think.

John take a look at the relatives he's meeting up with and see if the surname looks familiar - Palmeri

Edit to add name of relative

you were right Jim, 1898 he was 16 not 19 so it puts his birth at 1882. Nice job and great find. Now we know Giorgio's father's name.

I hope John emails that lady from Sambuca and gets a copy of Giorgio's birth. Then we can figure out which of these IGI records is for his father!

1. Nicolo Gigliotta - International Genealogical Index / SE
Gender: Male Birth: 05 JAN 1838 Sambuca Di Sicilia, Agrigento, Italy
2. Nicolo' Gigliotta - International Genealogical Index / SE
Gender: Male Birth: 16 JUN 1856 Sambuca Di Sicilia, Agrigento, Italy
3. Nicolo' Gigliotta - International Genealogical Index / SE
Gender: Male Birth: 05 FEB 1858 Sambuca Di Sicilia, Agrigento, Italy
4. Nicolo' Gigliotta - International Genealogical Index / SE
Gender: Male Birth: 04 AUG 1859 Sambuca Di Sicilia, Agrigento, Italy
Matches: International Genealogical Index/Southwest Europe - 4

Someone has extracted Sambuca and submitted it to the LDS church evidently.

(check it out for yourself at familysearch.com )

Ok boys..........we're on a roll...............check the manifest for Giorgio...........person and address Giorgio is going to.......Palmeri ? and the street name ? address 1326...now check the census for Palmeri

1900 census for New Orleans

img129.imageshack.us/i...suswv4.jpg

On the manifest, Giorgio gave the birth first name and on the census it's Alex Palmeri........so..........for Giorgio's brother named Alex......more than likely it's the same as Palmeri's first name.

Edit to add comment..........and the street number on the census is 1326...same as the manifest!!

(John I think you just found another relative to add to your list) Wink

Transcribed records for New Orleans ships

ftp.rootsweb.com/pub/u...000061.txt

You'll find both of their names on the list. And this is the same ship with the Taravella's.

So you think this Nicolo on the ship is Giorgio's father since he is 51 in 1897? Rosaria also seems to be older maybe born 1864 could it be the mom? Not sure how to interpret these ages relative to Giorgio and his brother Nicolo.

Hi John - if you want to put emoticons inside a 'Quote Box' - to use the quote facility just select the "Quote" sign on the post you want to answer. Then on your reply sheet you will see the "..." signs - put your cursor INSIDE THAT QUOTE and just click on the 'emoticon' you want to put there...

Hope that helps!
