You aren't so far off, between work, my kids and my websites I have no time to get into trouble... Sad

my social life is non-existent

I know what you mean. I'm a little overwhelmed by my responsibilities. It all interferes with my research and social life (or lack thereof). Too bad we can't find a job with benefits that would pay us for doing this Exclamation
I did not know you could search ship records by comune. I have been searching surname by surname for Montalto Uffugo. Thanks for the tip!

How do you search ship records by comune. I have never did that before.

Cugina , go here:

www.jewishgen.org/data...ellis.html

and type in your town... (TOWN NAME field) & leave everything else blank.

It takes a couple seconds longer... but works great!

Sorry Vincenza..I did promise to work on this and completely forgot about it.

Ok..go to www.stevemorse.org

You will be given choices of which pages to use. The one James gave is the basic white form.

If you go to the gold form, you will have a more refined search option. I use it often because it allows you to look by town, name, year of year, etc or various other combos. I found if you use maybe three of four of the first letters of a name, town, etc you will even get misspelled names. Remember to set your hits per page at the highest..500 for the white page, 200 for the gold..otherwise you will be scrolling through pages forever.

Embarassed Yea my bad.

Thanks Nuccia for pointing to the newer version, I keep forgetting about it. I have the old one bookmarked. The Gold version is a gazillion times more detailed.

Just to give you an example..

I went to the gold form and I typed in as follows:

Then I went and made a coffee. When I came back..these were the hits I got..

Search Results

Number nine happens to have a close enough name to one of my ancestors (my great uncle) and the year of birth is close to my Vincezo's. The town name is mis spelled (Ardone)but it could be Ardore..so I clixk on it and low and behold..its my great uncle.

First Name: Vincenzo
Last Name: Angeletta
Ethnicity: Italy, Italian So.
Last Place of Residence: Ardone, Italy
Date of Arrival: Jul 21, 1912
Age at Arrival: 32y Gender: M Marital Status: M
Ship of Travel: Saint Paul
Port of Departure: Southampton
Manifest Line Number: 0021

Page One

Page Two

At least now I know he was already married in 1912, and his wife's name was Maria. It also tells me that this isn't his first trip..he was in Pittsburg between 1903-1911 (his brother actually lived in Pittsburg during that time). Now hes on his way to New York..

I did find the original manifest once severely misspelled but I lost it. At the time I wasn't sure this was my Vincenzo but now, since I got the family story certificate I am almost positive its him. Time to start writing for sources to back this up.

No problem James. I use the white form too sometimes..especially at the beginning of my search. I love playing with all the pages.

There were nights I spent hours on his site and like it better than the ancestry passenger indexes. Its funny, so much of what's on ancestry can be viewed for free elsewhere..you just have to find the correct links. Ancestry is only nice because it's one stop searching.
