Thanks for looking ! It seems all of these Caterina's are going to Boston. My Caterina should be going to Springfield, IL. Also, I believe her father's name was Vito as stated in her son Vito's obit. Doesn't look like a match so far if I assume they met in Springfield and/or Bagheria.

I located this 1906 Did Not Sail manifest for a Caterina Rizzo, age 20 (yob about 1886), last residence Bagheria, going to Brooklyn NY to join husband Giovanni La Barbera at 72 Washington St. Travelling with possible daughter, Maria La Barbera, age 11 months. Lines 8 and 9.

There may have been multiple Giovanni La Barbera's born in the same year in Bagheria. Could the last record you posted be for the wrong Giovanni??

Biff
Yes that was my first thought that it was not correct but I was not sure how to approach that yet with my new found cugino who found it. Thanks for the tip I think you have the solution. I have the 1882 Bagheria films on order and I should be able to go through them in next few weeks to verify.
Whew!

John this may or may not be something. I've been checking on coal mining in Chicago and all mining was in suburban Chicago areas. This link has a town that had a macaroni factory AND was big into coal mining also. If you scroll to the bottom of the first page you will see a picture of the macaroni factory and there is also a listing of every vein for mining in that town. I believe you can contact via email and have them check records for John. I'm going to try and search for a census in that town to see if we can locate him.

Response....
I am unable to find this name in our files. There were 39 coal mines in
the Braidwood area from 1864 thru about 1929. The best book on the history of Braidwood is called "The Braidwood Story" but I could not find a
reference to this name. It does not list every coal miner. There was a Peter Rossi macaroni factory in Braidwood, but I don't have a list of their
employees.
Sorry I can't help you more.

I believe I know who these LaBarbera's are now....my cousins in Bagheria married into the Martorana family who have LaBarbera's in their tree, not sure how they are related but I bet this is the LaBarbera you found below. I will send it to them to see what they say. Can you send me pdf of these manifests?

John I'm hoping Biff can send you the manifests. I don't have ancestry and i have no other way to save the full views.
Biff when you read this could you save those manifests and send to John? Thanks in advance.

I combined the images into a PDF file and sent it to John.
If one uses Firefox, these images can be saved without ancestry. After clicking on the image, go to TOOLS,select PAGE INFO, select the tab labeled MEDIA, select the file that has something like TIFF2GIF.EXE in it, Click on the SAVE AS tab at bottom right of the dialog, name the file whatever you like such as manifest.jpg.
I haven't tried this in IE, sorry.

Biff,
Yes you are right. This Caterina Rizzo is the wife of Giovanni LaBarbera who is the son of Angelo LaBarbera born 1839. Angelo is the brother of my great great grandfather Giovanni LaBarbera.
So my recent trip helped me make this connection!

GOOD NEWS, just found grandsons of John LaBarbara they say John's records they have indicate he was born as Antonio LaBarbera, his name seems to change about 1935 when he got his SS card, they misspelled his last name and he also started using John instead of Antonino/Antonio. This would also explain why I can't find a Giovanni birth record. Also, the father of Gaetano and John died in Feb 1882 due to a tragic fire accident, since Antonio was born Dec 1881, I always wondered how another child could be born if the father died in Feb 1882, unless he was conceived. It still bothers me that there is a Tony Barber living with John in 1910 and that Gaetano's obit says there is an Anthony and a John who were his brothers. But the obit also says there are 2 Josephine siblings so evidence of confusion by whoever wrote the obit.
Still need to find Agnese!!!
