Italian first name?

Is Dorotea an Italian first name? I am transcribing a birth act and the name looks like Dorotea but I'm not sure.

Thanks James. It's the first Dorotea I came across. OK I have another one, this one is a male name Donsila or Donsilo?? Embarassed

I've never encountered that given name but have seen Dionisio. This a good one for Riccardo, Rafaella, Alessandra or perhaps someone in Italy more familiar with the rarer names.

It could also be Danilo or Duilio but there are many names that it 'could' be. Have a look here:

When you can actually compare the name/document with an open list it is often far easier to find the best possibility!

At the end of each incividual name entry is a link to another page and on that page there is a link in th top r/h hand corner to Related Names.THAT list offers many more 'possibilities' with rarer and often 'local' names.
