My great grandfather Antonio Di'Iorio married Magdalena DiMarco (Born 1875) in Italy. The imigrated to US, and lived in Shoshone, Idaho where Magdalena died in childbirth in 1909. That's all I know. Please give me ideas on where to look next in italy/us?

thanks for the reply. i'm getting the birth certificate of their sone (my grandfather). This gives their birth days. I am also getting some background from my sister who has the oral history of their trip from the east coast to Idaho. My great grandmother died in childbirth in 1909 in shoshone idaho. My grandfather was 3 then and was then adopted. His oder brothers kept the name, his changed. I'll get more details and come back.

Michael, happy to have been of help.
I located the census on ancestry using the following search criteria. I usually search for census records by year rather than for all at once. I picked the census year nearest your g grandmother's death (1910) and serching using the following criteria.
First name--Ant* wildcard search
No surname
State--Idaho
City/Township--Shoshone
First one on the list of results was Antone Dacres.
If I didn't get any decent hits using the above search criteria, I would have eliminated the city/township and search by the county in which Shoshone is located, Lincoln; and if that didn't get any possibles, I would have only used a state search without the county or township.
I'll try to see what else I can locate for census records or ship manifests. If they emigrated in the 1880's or early 1890's, they would have come through Castle Garden if they entered through the port of New York. Unfortunately, there's not a lot of information on manifests for those years.

Possible 1886 manifest, see line 31 (289), travelling with son (figlio) G Ant(onio) on following line:
img163.imageshack.us/i...io1886.jpg
Name: Ant De Torio
Arrival Date: 11 Oct 1886
Estimated birth year: abt 1864
Age: 22
Gender: Male
Port of Departure: Naples, Italy
Destination: New York
Place of Origin: best guess--Cerreto**
Ship Name: Alesia
Port of Arrival: New York
Port Arrival State: New York
Port Arrival Country: United States
**list of possible comuni in Italy beginning with Cerreto;
Cerreto Castello, province: Biella - region: Piedmont
Cerreto d'Asti, province: Asti - region: Piedmont
Cerreto DEsi, province: Ancona - region: Marche
Cerreto di Spoleto, province: Perugia - region: Umbria
Cerreto Grue, province: Alessandria - region: Piedmont
Cerreto Guidi, province: Firenze - region: Tuscany
Cerreto Langhe, province: Cuneo - region: Piedmont
Cerreto Laziale, province: Roma - region: Lazio
Cerreto Sannita, province: Benevento - region: Campania
Problem with this manifest:
Immigration year: 1886
Travelling with his one year old son
If your great grandmother was born in 1875, she would have been about 10 when she was married and conceived. It will be interesting to see what years of birth are on the birth certificate.

this is interesting. I wonder if he had a first wife and travelled with his son then. I will talk to family and get back to you.
You all are so incredibly helpful.
Grazie mille.

I wonder if son Leo was counted twice in the 1910 census. Here's a possible living with what looks like the DeVincenzo family in Pocatello.
img707.imageshack.us/i...io1910.jpg
Name: Leo Deorio
Age in 1910: 5
Estimated birth year: abt 1905
Birthplace: Idaho
Relation to Head of House: Lodger
Father's Birth Place: Italy
Mother's Birth Place: Italy
Home in 1910: Pocatello Ward 4, Bannock, Idaho
Marital Status: Single
Race: White
Gender: Male
Household Members: Name Age
Georgie Devengenzo 58
Antonia Devengenzo 55
Nicholas A Devengenzo 15
Leo Deorio 5, born Idaho, both parents born Italy.
Interesting to note that only one of Antonia's eight children are alive, son Nicolas. Perhaps that's why they took Leo in?

This is right I think. The kids would've been split to different families when my great grandmother died, that's why my last name is donovan. We thought Antonio went back to Italy after his wife died

Thanks again. While I do want to keep going back to Italy (my grandfather married a girl from Marzi in Calbria), and fill out those details, I am going to try to focus on finding antonio - after he left his kids. These details today have made me wonder where he ended up more than ever.
