Hi, i am interested in getting birth/marriage/death and ww2 record (he was prisoner sometimes after March 1943 and then escaped) of my grandfather Filippo Barreca from Terranova Sappo Minulo. I'd also like info birth/marriages (2)/death of his father Francesco Barreca married to Filomena Nicolo from Taurianova (RC).

where do i start. I have contacted the commune in Terranova, but never heard back.

Have you tried contacting the Australia archives sites for information? You can search as a guest and see if there is any information they can provide you with. Many of their documents contain pictures which is always helpful. www.naa.gov.au/collect...ng/search/

Also, do you have approx. birthdates for Filippo and Francesco? Filomena? When did they arrive in Australia?

thank you for your quick reply. They never came to Australia - My great grand father (Francesco) was going back and forth from Terranova to the states and i have seen a possible passenger record from him. his wife Filomena stayed in Terranova and never went to the States. I don't have date of birth for Francesco and Filomena. As for Filippo, i think he was born around 1912, but i am unsure. Filippo passed away in Nov 1987 in Terranava

Looks like Francesco was born about 1886 - he lists his wife Filomena on this ship manifest and going to see brother Vincenzo in West Virginia. in 1913. It also looks like its not his first trip -

thanks! would you know how i could get Filippo Barreca s WW2 records. i can work out that he was made prisonner sometime after march 1943 - my family thinks he was made prisoner in Greece by germans.

I would try writing away to the Reggio Calabria Archives for his military records (papers). Once you get it you can send for his POW records which I believe may be kept in Rome.
