As many of you know, my father wants to see a picture of his grandparents more than anything in the world. So, I have a clue from the Garrafa branch of the family. The back of one of their family photographs gives a studio name and address. How can I find out if they still exist or if their archives still exist? Here is the back of the photo:

misbris on the IG forum found this for me:
Is this just a coincidence? Note the address. A cartoleria is a stationery store.

Gaudio Rossana Cartoleria Del Corso
87100 Cosenza (CS) - Corso Telesio Bernardino, 183
0984 72374

I think this could be the descendants of the photographer.

Emmy, thanks. I am hoping if Uncle Domenico used this photography studio so did everyone else in the family. Ultimately, I am hoping for the wedding photo of my grandfather's parent which will make my father SO HAPPY. Also, if Domenico Garrafa went there with wife #2 he may have gone there with wife #1. At least then I could get a copy of a picture of his first wife Emilia - the sister of my great grandmother. I am not getting too excited yet though. The photos may no longer exist.

Cathy,

As Riccardo says, Let's cross fingers.

Best of luck on this.

Biff

Our wondeful Carole has offered to call them for me Monday. She tried to call today but it was evening there and they were closed for the weekend. I'll be on the edge of my seat until then. Although the chances of me getting any photos even if they still exist are slim to none. On the other hand, maybe my dad will send me there to go through all those photos! Very Happy

Ditto on Carole being wonderful. She helped me by calling my cousin in San Mango a while ago.

Carole, we all greatly appreciate your concern and generosity.

OK - Not good news I'm afraid Cathy....

I have just spoken to Rossana Gaudio's husband and, to the best of his knowledge, there is no link with the Raffaele Gaudio of the Studio Artistico in Corso Telesio. He advised me that he knew of no Stabilimento Artistico Fotografico in Corso Telesio and couldn't remember there ever having been one. He was most apologetic and seemed sorry not to be able to help....

Sorry!

Thank you so much for trying. At least I know this is not possible. I had a feeling nothing would come of it. After all the photo I have taken from that studio is circa 1888. Shocked
Thank you so much for calling for me. That was so sweet! kiss

Cathy I've no idea just how big that town is but perhaps there just may be some other photographer in that area that took over that business and it could have a different name and maybe new premises. I'm sure if any photographer found old photographic plates like they used long ago they wouldnt throw them away. That was so good of Carole doing that, she has offered to phone for me in the past too. kiss I know Carole said that the person she phoned couldnt give help but is there the equivalent in Italy to ourYellow Pages here that gives lists of traders? Keep trying Cathy - think we'll all have to enlist the help of St Anthony again Smile

The other thing that crossed my mind - Would the local newspaper in that area not print a request for information for you, its worked for some people here.

Emmy!! You are a genius! Local paper? I never thought of that. Now to find out what the local paper is. Confused Perhaps I can place an add - looking for my many relatives or something. I can give my website address for more info/my email. Hmmm. I have lots of work to do on the website before I can do that though. And if I don't start working on my new domain soon, Nuccia is coming to Chicago to whap me! hide So much to do, so little time. It's a shame I have to waste all that time earning a living!
Brilliant idea! When my website is ready, I will do that.

I had checked the Yellow Pages for Photographic Studios in the Cosenza area and for photogaphers. These were the ones that it found (9):
>Studio Fotografiche<
Each shop and address here has a 'Mappa Interattiva' where you can see where they are in the town.

Corso Telesio is here:
>Map Corso Telesio<

And for Stabilimenti Fotografiche (0):
>Stabilimenti Fotografiche<

If I can be of any further help - just shout!
