Well the saga continues...It seems that Madam Jokster's (Carole), PC blew up this morning. Seems it took to smoking and died a painful death.

Carole has already purchased a new one but is in the process of getting it set up so you all are stuck with me again. And I thought I could get away... Wink

Anyway, I dying to hear what she thinks of her new PC...hers was almost as old as mine was and it was a matter of time. BTW...for all those horror stories we have heard about Vista....so far I love it! I'll know more this weekend.

I am sure the Madame will love it too. I know Gina and Jim are running the same program..your thoughts?

Biff, what came in yours and how do you like it so far?

I ordered my Dell with Windows XP rather than Vista and have had no issues with XP. Since my initial nightmare with Dell, everything has been working fine but I'd never buy another Dell based on the shabby treatment we received.

Hi folks,
Well I'm back in the fold again - so beware.... OK so I didn't expect to have to get a replacement PC quite so soon, but when my old Compaq Evo started to smoke I thought the 'Boss' and Simy were in hiding and waiting for me! There was nothing left but a decent burial neclord

But within 45 mins of getting the new one home and starting to set it up (following HP's instructions to the letter) I doscovered that my monitor did not want to work. The instructions said 'you may need to wait from 10 mins to an hour for the pc to load - DO NOT TURN THE PC OFF DURING THIS TIME!' Yeah - right... so off to supper, then back to see what was what - well NOTHING was what - still a blank screen. By now it's too late for the HP customer service (this IS Italy - 24/7 service..what's that?). So I unplugged everything and tried again...zilch!

Up early this morning and straight on the phone to HP - really helpful, but convinced that it's not thier pc. They gave me the Milan Samsung customer service. Once again, really caring and looking for all possibilities. Suggested I connect the screen to another pc to see if it worked. Hello...? - The other pc went up in smoke yesterday! Can you take the screen to someone who has a pc? No - I don't think so... but I do have a laptop. Oh connect it to that he says...so I did, and it (the screen) worked. Not our problem then - sorry. Go back to HP. Well HP said that if I take it back to the store they would provide another one immediately, but they had never had this problem before. Said they couldn't understand how come the screen 'adapter' plug didn't work Shocked " 'adapter plug' - WHAT adapter plug???" The small whiite one that you plug your blue screen plug into... we put them in the box with the paperwork. OH SUGAR... it was small, and I didn't see it. But once found and connected it's working fine. Well sort of. Apart from being a new system to learn - it's obvioulsy all in Italian, and having lost all my Bookmarks (!) everything is sort of OK.

The moral of this story? Simple really - wan't a pc or a screen and want good customer service - they buy Hewlett Packard or Samsung - they were GREAT! Eat your heart out Dell!

Yes but you forgot to add the part that the instructions to how to fix the problem was on the screen at the bottom which one couldn't read anyway if the screen wasn't working.... peep

Well Carole I am glad you have everything sorted out. Personally I love Dell, my last two pcs and my kids are all dell. Ive had nothing but wonderful service assistance. Plus (I don't know about Europe) the price (for what you get) can't be beat.

Welcome back Carole. My new PC is a HP also (with Vista). So far, so good. We use HP at work too and no problems to speak of. My last system was a Dell (also no problems). I have not totally learned Vista, but little by little, I will. My only complaint is that a lot of programs are still written for XP so you need to download patches.
