Really... as if I would do such a thing! Wink

But yes, you are quite right - it was NOT serious.
Think...what was the date yesterday? That's right the FIRST OF APRIL!

It was in fact an April fool's joke prepared by the BBC and like the last one they did, it managed to get quite a few people to believe it. The British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) is know as "Auntie Beeb in Britain because it is always so staid in it's views on anything. But just once in a while they resort to something like this.

The last time was in 1957 when TV was just becoming popular and they issued an item on a very serious current affairs programme called Panorama (which is still running now). The commentator for the item was Richard Dimbleby a pretty serious commentator at the BBC. He actually did the commentary on Churchills funeral... The item was so good and the public were really NOT au fait with the subject matter in those days that many were fooled for some time. Here's that spoof!

Spaghetti Harvest!

The article that I was pointing out was also published on April 1st, it was signed by Avril de Poisson. An April fool's in French is called Poisson d'Avril... (Pesce d'aprile in italiano) Wink

I did see the one about the penguins when it was broadcast and believe me how it was put across was marvellous. Though I kept thinking maybe they could have finished up showing the penguins underwater where they really can 'fly'
I'm sure there was another April Fool joke played on the public some years ago when it was reported about 'an alien invasion' something like that and it was so well done that it caused lots of people to panic.

I remember the one about the spaghetti too when it was broadcast and I can still hear Bob saying 'No one will believe that in a million years' but it was proved he was wrong Smile

Livio, re April fool news item - this just maybe backfire who knows that handbag just maybe catch on and become a best seller!! Wink
