The letter I received stated "Nicastro (now this town is named Lamezia Terme)" According to this letter, this is the town where the family lived and currently lives. Here are the details he was able to provide quickly:
My great grandparents, Saverio Sanandres and Carolina Montesanti had many children(I think about Cool one of which was Saverina... Saverina married Rocco Governa and they had a daughter Carmelina-- the person who wrote to me is Carmelina's son.

TALK ABOUT EXCITING!!!!

Additionally I want to thank Carol for finding more info on my Mother's side (Bernarducci)!!! This is terriffic!!

I will continue to keep all of you posted. In the interim, if you have any info regarding this town, perhaps you can share... Thanks again!! Patricia

Since most of the children appear to have been born in the 1880's and 1890's you need to write Italy for records. I would try for the marriage of the parents or the birth of your grandfather. Your grandfather's birth act will not give you much that you do not already know except the ages of his parents which may give you a clue as to the time frame the marriage occurred. The marriage act should give you the place of birth of the bride and groom and their parent's names which will allow you to go back further. I would write both the Catanzaro Province archives and Lamezia Terme. Lamezia probably does not have Nicastro records - but you never know. Since they do occupy the land once governed by Nicastro, it is a possibility.

Cathy,
WOW! Now I hate to sound stupid, but are you telling me I should order these films from LDS? Or Nicastro? If so, how and where do I get them? If writing to Italy would you possibly have an address ? Very Happy -- I know I am pushing, but really, I am very new to this type of investigating... Thanks for the response and the help.

Sorry Patricia, my mistake. The microfilms I listed are from the Latter Day Saints (LDS) Family History Library. The main library is located in Salt Lake City and you can order the microfilms through a small local LDS Family History Center. To find a center near you click this link: www.familysearch.org/e...et_fhc.asp
Visit the center, make sure they have scanning equiptment for the microfilm readers and order the films you need from them. Once you get your Italian information, you will be able to obtain your information from Spain too. Since the records available for Nicastro end in 1861, you will need to request any later records you want from the comune (town) or the Province. I beleive Nuccia has the addresses for the comune and Provinces. I am hoping Nuccia can post it here.

Did you write the email in Italian? hide You need to do that. If you do not know Italian, you can get a translation on the translation board here. Also, since Lamezia Terme may not have Nicastro records, you need to write to the Province too. Nuccia - do you have the Provincia di Catanzaro Archive address?
I would start your email to Lamezia Terme by simply asking if they have Nicastro records from the 1880's - 1890's. If they do have them you can always send another email.
