This film/song was posted today on a British forum I belong to

"Tammurriata Nera"

I have never heard either the song or the singer - but this, for me, was nine minutes of joy, pain, awe and humility... I have always enjoyed music/song from the Neapolitan area - Sergio Bruni being one of my favourites... But this man is utterly incredible and it is well worth watching and listening to all of it... (believe me)!

I didn't know what the title meant, but I did manage to find this tiny item on 'tammurriata', which I have translated for you.

Quote:
La Tammurriata – danza originaria dell’area vesuviana e nocerino-sarnese che si avvicina molto alle danze “estatiche” di provenienza medio-orientale

For those who don't read Italian - it says of the Tammurriata:
'a dance with origins in the areas of Vesuvius and nocerino-sarnese that really approaches many of the ecstatic/fervent dances of the middle-east'

How many have never realised the pain, hunger and fear of those traumatic times during WW2? And then to have Vesuvius erupt on top of everything else was, as seen in the film, horrific... you can read a little more about that here if you wish.

>Vesuvius - 1944 Eruption<

Who can blame those people for trying to find peace and prosperity elsewhere?

I wonder how many of 'you and yours' will understand the words and remember the pain!

I hope you enjoy hearing it as much as I did!

Thanks for the post Carole. Although I wasn't born yet, I feel deeply what the people living through those times must have felt.

I can only say that I hope this world never has to see a time like that again.
