    ----
I have just found information about Carmella Pascuzzi (Futino) arriving in New York on Feb. 7 1898 already married (passage paid by father-in-law). But I believe her husband Angelo Pascuzzi was in the US from 1893 until she came and they eventually came to Niagara Falls Ontario in 1907.

I know marriages by proxy often took place and would like extra information - articles I could read about this.

I have found a later Roman Catholic marriage between the two recorded in Niagara Falls Ontario Canada taking place in 1907. I have also learned that two marriages sometimes took place- one by proxy and another wedding with both present in the same church which took place later on.
I have not found this marriage in Italy before the passage on the Archivio Di Stato Di Cosenza. Any ideas where to look for this information?
Researching the Poane (Gagliano) Futino (Bianchi) Pascuzzi (Pedivigliano)
Thanks for your help.

My parents were married by proxy in Cosenza (actually in Malito). My dad was from Reggio and lived in Toronto, my mother still in Italy. My uncle (Dad's brother went to the Comune and married my mother one December. She then came to Canada where my father met her in Halifax in mid June. On Jul 1 my parents were married in the RC Church in Toronto.

You can read about it here:

and here:

To get a copy of the marriage act which took place in Italy you will have to write to the Comune where they married (usually in the brides town). Then you should get a copy of the marriage from the Church where they married. They probably have archived the marriage records in a central location by now in New York but if you can locate the Church then will direct you to the correct address.

Does this help at all?

Nuccia,
You have been so helpful in your replies as I start this family journey back through time. You have helped me understand the marriage by proxy in a very person and meaningful way.
I have just found the ship's manifest which states that "father-in-law" paid for Carmella's frip to New York just about one year after the Husband Angelo Pascuzzi received his US naturalization card. Carmella Pascuzzi and Angelo had three children near the Albany NY area before they came to Niagara Falls ON to have the other 9 children who all lived.
I will now start to explore how they "got together" with an ocean between them. Their villages (Bianchi-Pedivigliano) are about 20 miles apart. But he was here for about five years before his bride came "to meet him".
This site adds the personal touch to documents and dates as we explore the past.
Thanks again,
Bill in Niagara Falls Ontario

Jim its been my pleasure. Now I have a question for you - Did at anytime Angelo used an Americanized version of his name ? I found this birth record which might help since it shows a birth to a couple in 1907.

And here is their marriage record - which means the Church records should be available in a Church in Canada! It states the parents names as well which is a big help.

Yes both documents refer to my relatives going by the name Pasco not Pascuzzi. This just complicates things a little further like their first son beng named son Frank or Francesco. I have this marriage information but the 1907 date "complicates" things since Frank born in 1900, Louis born in 1901 and Angelo born in 1903 preceed this second marriage. I believe these three were born in the Albany New York area. I have been in contact with the Niagara Falls church referred to as "Falls View" in the document. they are looking into it. The 1911 Canadian Census has the Pasco family living at 38 Peer Street (Welland district #132 sub district Niagara Falls Sub-district # 47).
Thanks for the detective work.
