Hi Everyone,
Have been absent for quite a while, as you can see I am still searching for my Great Grandmothers family/info Giulietta Tudda. I do know however that she was born in Castilglioni in Tuscany and her fathers name was Cesario Tudda, don't know her mothers name. she had a sister named Marianna. Does anyone have any info on the Tudda family, I have hit a brick wall. Any info would be very, very welcome.

Tudda is a very rare surname. There are only 23 entries in the Italian White Pages: www.paginebianche.it/r...a&dv=&l=en and only one in Tuscany...

Thank you Livio and Suanj for the information - Yes, it seems that Tudda is a very rare surname. However I am positive that this is the correct spelling although it is written differently on one of the documents I have, the T looks very like a J.
It is also very correct that she lived with my G. Grandfather in Duddeston Road, Birmingham. His name was Innucenzio Barilone, some of the children you have listed suanj are correct. It has been very easy tracing the Barilone family but Tudda has proved very difficult. Can you give any other advice??

Kindest Regards,
Angel

Hi,
I cannot give a right advice, because you said that Giulietta coming from Castiglione in Tuscany, but the her maiden name is of Calabria region especially.. so it is a mystery ...

Hello Suanj,
Calabria region - this is quite confusing to me now. Do you have any advice to how I can find out where she was born or came from?? I am hoping to travel to Italy in September, I was planning to travel to Castiglione as I will be staying in Tuscany. I thought I might find a church that may have records of baptisms in the 1800's.

Thanks again,
Angel

Hi Angel,
as I said, the surname Tudda is no present in all Lazio region; Tudda is rare surname; just 23 persons on Italian directory! Tudda is a calabrian surname (especially)...

so it is hard to give the right advice; because maybe Tudda spelling is wrong...

abt Giulietta birthplace... you said Castiglione( Castiglion Fiorentino or Castiglione della Pescaia; both in Tuscany); but by 1911 she declared Cassino birthplace; and Cassino civil records was destroyed for large part by WWII bombing...

So it is a bit hard to find something...
Best regards,
suanj

Thank you, for all the info you have kindly given to me. Yes, it seems very difficult. I am beginning to believe that her family did come from southern Italy, but may have moved to Castiglione for whatever reason I don't know. Her sister who also came to the UK, married an Italian and returned to Italy with her husband (I'm still trying to find out his name) her name was Marianna Tudda. I met someone the other day who actually comes from Sicily and she said she knows the name Tudda comes from the southern part of Italy. she thinks Sicily. This has become very exciting and just hope I can get just one little link that will help me to uncover and reveal my families history.

Hello again,
Sorry, excuse me I had forgotten to answer your question. I am not sure what part of Castiglione she came from. You said she declared Cassino as her birth place in 1900's - very confusing. But when I think back I remember my Grandfather travelling home to Italy he sent my mother a letter with a photo signed on the reverse Cassino, so he had visited the area but I thought he was just travelling during his stay in Lazio (St Elia, Fiume Rapido - the home of his father).
In the 1900's my Great grandmother Giulietta, her husband and some of the children returned to Italy with views of staying. they stayed in the St Elia, Lazio area where my Great grandfather was born (Innucenzio Barilone). But unfortunately they decided to return to the UK. I don't have the exact date of their return.

Hello Suanj,

Is there any information for a Marianna Tudda, this being my G. Grandmothers sister. She returned to Italy with her husband, I don't know his name but there maybe something about Marianna Tudda?? I have a meeting with a priest at the church where she married in the UK to see if there are any records and also to find out her married name.

Thank you for all your help,

Angel

Hi, again me...
I believe that Marianna Tudda was the second wife of Vincenzo Petrozzi:

the Vincenzo daughter birth:

it is possible that Vincenzo Petrozzi coming from Sora (Frosinone province).

I know not what happened, because Romolo Petrozzi [son of Vincenzo and..(? ex wife)] married in UK..

NAME: Romolo Petrozzi
SPOUSE: Mcleod
MARRIAGE: Sep 1931 - Stoke upon Trent, Staffordshire
OTHER: QMar-Jul-Aug-Sep 1931

if Vincenzo Petrozzi and Marianna Tudda came back in Italy, it can be around 1903 because I found a record:

Deaths Jun 1903 (>99%)
Petrozzi Antonia 0 Birmingham 6d 31

and I believe that she was the daughter of Vincenzo Petrozzi and Marianna Tudda.. It could be possible that after daughter death the couple came back in Italy... and I believe that Marianna died very soon after the trip back, because I found these records, but it is another mystery:

a Vincenzo Petrozzi matching for age and name came in 1906 in Canada

I believe that when Vincenzo back in Italy with Marianna Tudda, maybe staying in Sora.. Marianna died or was abandoned and he came in Canada...

just a suggestion..
because I have no further infos, and Cassino civil records was destroyed by WWII bombing, and some record was rebuilt at the request of survivors around the 1955...
just my suggestions...
