Lee, congratulations on all the good news! That's exactly the kind of stuff I was looking to hear! Yay!!!

Cathy, Hobby Lobby is a nightmare - a financial nightmare. I spend a lot of time in there. Now they are building one in the town center right at the end of my street. Cr*p.......

My friend Debra (a member here, but not too active yet) made me a wonderful 'personal' gift that reflected where I live and with various collages on it about Italy. Since making it she has been asked to make quite a few 'personalised' ones as gifts for peoples families....

Here is mine below. It's About 12"x16" and it's mounted on a canvas covered picture frame. It even has a little picture of a key in the bottom l/h corner with my Italian ZIP code printed above it....

The same from me too. Something nice to look forward to.

Thank Goodness I dont have those stores here where I go shopping. My family are trying hard to bann me from 'pet stores' but they would have no hope of keeping me out of the ones mentioned here.
Smile Maybe I would be able to supply them with some of the craft stock I have in my home - Wink
As the saying goes (regarding craft equipment) You name it --I've got it!!!
Has anyone tried the 'Acoustic Art' ?- (wax and a warm iron)

Congrats on the new addition, Lee...and hoping for all the best for the next one. You have been busy, haven't you? Haven't talked in ages.
We don't have Hobby Lobby...Jen has really gotten into scrap booking the last year. Its something we can do together when I'm not on the computer (which is hardly ever lately). But I think I may pull out my things this weekend.

Carole, that is BEAUTIFUL! Deb has a lot of talent. What a great gift. Is that the same Deb from Amici? I would love a gift like that. I think she needs to start selling them - people would go nuts.

Yes it is the same Deb from "Amici" and she is actually making them to order now as so many friends and aquaintances had asked her to make one.

It is indeed wonderful and is very 'tactile' with little bits of beaded ribbon (in my favourite colours) and leaves, raised maps and 'pretend' old bank notes.... so inventive and so very personal.

Gina - no need to go to Hobby Lobby - just come here! I have so many scrapbook supplies and papers I could start my own store! Then there's the jewelry supplies (not from Hobby Lobby - good jewelry supplies). Lee Welcome back - I missed you! Grandmother? You look WAY too young! Congratulations!

I love the collage....never thought of doing one full scale, would make a neat gift for the grandkids!! Maybe incorporate some "family history" in it..... Wink

Thanks for the congrats...the one in March will be grandbaby number eight......still trying to sell my son on the name "Arabella" as opposed to just "Bella".......

I have tried to keep up with everyone's news......but have been so busy with the house, grandkids, ect.,.......haven't had any spare time for genealogy.......however, starting to have "research withdrawal"......so I really need to set aside some me time just to research and relax.
Will have to call you Nuccia......lots to catch up on!!

Missed all of you!
Lee

BOOKS

I won't call them scrapbooks, but I have assembled three binders for elderly relatives --- two of my Mom's 1st cousins and her cousin-in-law ---- all elderly ladies @ 90+ years. These are folks I have found and met through my Genealogy research --- cousins my Mom never knew or met before she died.

I just bought 1" three ring binders and plastic sheet protectors and then filled them with copies of extractions (birth, death, marriages), pictures, historical data plus any pictures (I was able to obtain a history of the town and salt mine which had a lot of old photos) and anything else that would be meaningful. The books were all warmly received --- especially the first cousin who helped me get started, the youngest daughter of my Grandfather's older brother who had shared a lot of information she had and personal knowledge. She remained in the little town in NW NY state where my Maternal relatives settled ---- and she truly enjoyed my progress as I shared my findings with her.

They all riciprocated with copies of family photos they had, so now I have a nice collection --- I started with none. The first cousin passed away last year, but she asked my permission to pass her book along to a nephew before she died. I am very happy to have done these books even though it involved a lot of scanning, copying and printing as they made these ladies very happy when they received them.....

Great story Charlie. I did a book like that too years ago. Many of the old family pictures were never seen by a lot of my family. Some of them I cropped out individuals and printed them on 8x10 photo paper. I put all the US documents in it. I brought it to my parents 50th wedding anniversary party and it was a big hit. There was a line to see it all night.

I did the binder thing too. I think I got the idea from Nucia. My mom loved it and made her own binders too and now they travel with her to family events!

The binders were the first thing I did last year on my vacation. I also made on for each of my children with all their school pics and report cards, religious events, awards etc. The love it. Now they go and file their own things in there as events happen and are so proud of it.

I even put their birth info at the begin with a pedigree sheet (I put an image of the house they were born in as a faded background in the pedigree) and pictures of their grandparents and great great parents. I simplified theirs and then have a major binder (well now its up to three) with the family info in it.

I also remember doing a sort of book for Debra's mom last year for her birthday. I collected all the online info I could find on her family and put it in order. Then I decorated it simply with autumn leaves and a picture of her on the front. Debra says she loved it so it was really worth it to spend the time making it.

We finished the scrapbook this weekend. I got my mom to help me. She was a special ed teacher and has many creative ideas. I think it came out beautifully. Just what I need.....another hobby.......yippee.

Deb, I might have to contact you about your beautiful things. I have some ideas. I am thinking specifically about a gift for someone and I don't have your talent to do it myself.
