This is a little different from the birth records I've seen. I find the handwriting very difficult to read. The names of the child's grandparent may be listed but I am not certain. Any help at all would be greatly appreciated.

Luca, you are incredibly fast! So was this communicated verbally because Gaetano couldn't write? Also does this mean Gaetano was not born in Belmonte: nato e domiciliato in questo quartiere Burvatoio?

The said declaration was made in the presence of Paolo Greco of the late... aged 46, villager, born and living in this Comue, and of Giuseppe Niloni of the late Andrea aged 42, born and living in this place, witnesses chosen by the declarer, who after having read of the present verbal proceedings spread out at the same time on two original, registers, was signed by me, the declarer, and the witnesses having declared to be unable to write.

I think Carole's translation can reply to your questions. If not everything is clear I'll try to explane it.

Thanks Carole. As always, the teamwork of Carole and Luca, makes this process for us beginners so much easier! I am still curious about the meaning of "Burvatoio"; perhaps, I should let sleeping dogs lie.

It says the 'quartiere' (district) of Burvatoio. So it might be like the 'contrada's' in Tuscany but smaller!

here is the marriage certificate from St Anthony of Padua in Chester, PA that I discovered as a result of the transcription Riccardo found in the records in Trapani. This document also provides baptismal information of the couple being wed, the churches where baptized (I have tried to ascertain if they still exist), and some additional names, which I am unable to make out--Salvatore ....

I also found the baptismal record of the couple's first child. I can't make out the names of the godparents on this doc.

The images may be a bit large. Imageshack has a note about not using the direct link option that I have always used previously.

In the first doc: Ciambellano Salvatore and Salvo Natale (I don't know if Salvo was the name or the surname!)
In the second: Ciambellano Salvatore and Antonina Ciambellano

Thanks, Luca. It makes perfect sense once you've written it out for me!

I noticed that too Tom. But on the line immediately above that notice in red you will find the same 'direct link'. I now use that one!

I also have the Image Shack 'tool bar' which gives me rapid access to anything by using a 'right click' on my mouse - that access doesn't have that 'red warning' at all!
