to Cathy and to everyone,
I am thrilled to discover this website.
My great grandparents camre from San Fili and Bucita.
My GGrandfather was Salvatore Cavaliere and he was from San Fili and his wife was Pasqualina Filomena Ciancio.
They we're married in the church in Bucita which has been there for 300 years which is what I was told when i was there.
I still have relatives who live there and in Cosenza.
I have in my possession all of the civil registration records from San fili from 1809-1910 which will give you all of the Birth, Marriage and Death certificates from those time frames.
There is a regional family history center here in Mesa, Az and I bought all of the films years ago.
I had the priveledge of visiting San fili and Bucita in 2003 and was shown the civil registration books and did alot of research besides staying in the same house that my ggrandfather was born in.
I also had a friend in Naples go into the archives there and got me a copy of the onciari record from san fili dating back to 1742.
The people there we're kind enough to make me xerox copies of all the pages and a microfilm of the book's pages.
I don't know if you are familiar with these records.
This might be an approach to preserving these precious records is to have the archives in naples restore them.
They have a wonderful facility there and the preservation room is incredible.
Also if anyone out there would like me to do some research from san fili or bucita let me know.
I have been a professional genealogist foe the better part of 16 years now.
I look forward to hearing from you all,
Jeff

Hi Jeff, welcome to Gente! Very Happy It's nice to see another Cosentino here!
I just ordered a film for San Fili to find a processetti! Do you have the whole Catasto Onciario for San Fili?
Again, welcome to Gente!

Cathy,
Thanks fotr your reply.
Yes I do have all of the Onciari record for San Fili and it does include Bucita as well.
Also thru this friend i was able to get the archives there to put on a cd the onciari record for San Vicenza la costa for 1742 as well.
I have also the xerox copies for that record as well.
My gggranparents we're Corrado's and they we're from there.
I love my Italian ancestry from Italy and i am still in contact with relatives there.
I had a wonderful experience there. Picking grapes from the same vineyard that my ancestors picked from for over 300 years.
also picking tomatoes from the same orchard that my ancestors picked from.
I was also able to go to the comune in San fili and gather records there that were not on the civil registration films that i have from 1809-1910.
My Cavaliere cousins we're great and I was there for over a week with them.
Jeff

Hi Jeff!

Welcome to Gente! I also have relatives from San Fili and San Vincenza La Costa! Hopefully we can all get together and exchange info and records. I look forward to hearing more from you.

Should we move this to the Southern Italian Board? What do you all think?

Jeff,
I am curious...did you notice any Napolitano surnames in either of the Catasto's that you have? I am waiting for the Castasto of Montalto and I am curious which town Bucita and San Sisto will show up under since during the era of these Catastos both were frasione's of Montalto. And Santa Maria La Castagna (I beleive) was part of San Fili during this time. Perhaps you know?
Thanks.

Cathy,
In response to your question about the Napalitano's I did not find one family in San Fili/Bucita or San Vicenzo La costa on them.
However I have found that family name when i have done research in the civil registration for San Fili and Bucita 1809-1910.
When the Napolitano's came into the area I don't know.

Nuccia,
You can e-mail me at any time @rjjammer@aol.com with any questions that you may have for me.
Chances are if we have ancestors from San fili/Bucita we're probably related Very Happy

Thanks - that answers my question. They will be in the Montalto Catasto then.

Hello together!

If I understand you correctly, you are looking for the Napolitanos in Bucita.
Random is my father from Bucita and his name is also Napolitano. We still have uncles and aunts in Italy. My father emigrated to Germany in 1967.
He told me of emigrants which went to America, Brasil and Venezuela.

Why are you looking for the Nappos?
I would appreciate an answer

I am a Napolitano. My grandfather came from Montalto Uffugo - next town over from San Fili. Nuccia's grandmother was a Napolitano from San Fili.
I have been able to trace the ancestry of the majority of the Napolitano's from San Fili, San Vincenzo La Costa, San Sisto and San Benedetto Ullano back to 2 men in Montalto Uffugo! I am still researching all this though so I may find someone else. I would be very interested in talking to you to learn about your family. My objective is to learn as much as I can about the Cosenza Province Napolitano's to find their origins.

Hi Cathy,

my father is Born in 1947 Bucita. He has five siblings. He emigrated to Germany in 1967. His fathe Filiberto Napolitano was born in San Siste. His father was Francesco Napolitano. Filibertos brother and sister emigrated to America in early 1950. My father said that even the children have gone to America. The whole family were millers. Can you speak Italian? If so, you may like to talk over skype with my father.

See you soon
Napoli

I was aware of people emigrating to Germany from the area, it is nice to hear from one at last - especially a Napolitano! I would love to skype with you and your father, however my Italian skills are not very good. I may be able to arrange a 3 way with a translator though. Does he speak the Cosenza dialect? Most of my Napolitano men were millers also. Your timing could not be better because I am just beginning research into San Vincenzo La Costa Napolitano's (where all the San Sisto records are) and I would love to do your family tree!! It would help me as well - with your names I can find them all more easily. I will send you a private message on this forum to provide you with my email and my Skype name. I am grateful and happy that you have found me here!
You may want to have a look at my websites.
Here is a link to the very incomplete Napolitano index of my Montalto site:
Montalto Uffugo Napolitano Index
I have been so busy getting records online I have ignored this site but hope to do much more with it this winter.
Cathy

If you speak dialect then you can count me in to translate - that's my dialect!
