Thanks for collecting and indexing information on Ardore. It has been very helpful. Smile

My great-grandfather was born in Ardore in 1844, named Rosario Bova, son of Ferdinando Bova and Maria Zappavigna (Birth notice attached). His birth record says that his father Ferdinando was 46 when the birth was recorded. That would mean that Ferdinando was born in 1798.

Are there any birth records for 1798 that would show his parents?

Hi. I'm afraid I can't help as far as going back further with your line. All my ancestors are from Ardore. I'm also stuck at the late 1700's, early 1800's. My ggrandmother was Antonia Zappavigna b. c1844. I don't know if you already have this, but if you're ever able to go back a couple more generations, this is a link to the Ardore Catasto Onciaro for 1746. It names every family unit and their possessions. There are lots of Zappavigna's but not too many Bova's. The family units start at p.99.

Hope this helps.
Mary

Thanks for the response.

Marriage records listed our g3-grandfather as Antonio Bova who passed away in 1806, likely born around 1750 so the 1746 book on Ardore is very helpful. It also is a good history on the commune.

If we find more specifics on Zappavigna we'll be sure to pass it along.

Best Regards. Smile

Death records should give the parents's names. Beyond 1809 you will need to access parish records.
